Pixelation Film Restoration

Friday 24th April 2015

Session Review

During today’s session, I was making sure I have all of the files for the final submission. In particular, I was successfully able to recover the emotive typography Photoshop files; however, the time spent was mainly dedicated in restoring mine and Matthew Ashurst's pixilation short film.

The reason behind this was because the original rendered film was corrupted along with the adobe premiere files. thankfully I uploaded the original film to my Vimeo account so I used an online file converter to download an uncorrupted version of the film and import into adobe premiere restoring both the finished film and construction (Adobe Premiere) files for the final submission.

Data Loss and Recovery

Tuesday 21st April 2015

Session Review

Previously last week Friday I had lost my USB stick containing almost all of my university, college and personal projects;however, thankfully my university files were scattered around and saved on multiple MAC computers in the Digital Arts Centre. So my first action before purchasing my new USB stick was to compress all of my animation folders and store them in my email account which was a wise course of action.

Also my personal work was saved on my home desktop and as for the college work that is missing which is my 3d models and animations I have contacted a friend who is still attending south Birmingham college and will transfer my l still left on my college computer to my email.

Overall at this point despite it being a slap in the face I am used to this cycle of losing my past work which it seems once I finish once set of education the work is submitted but the majority of work I possess is discarded leaving me only with wok that strangely seems to be useful later on for future projects and this is evidence in my university and personal projects since it forces me to work harder and the steps I undertook in creating that work is relived in my mind's eye.

Thirty Second Mars Bar Advert Final Session

Monday 20th April 2015

Session Review

During this morning’s session, I watched the final footage and compared it to the collection of existing Mars bar advertisements and I noticed one small error and that is at the end of the advertisements Mars always displays subtly the mars bar or logo either on a table or on a billboard.

So until I can photograph my own picture of a mars bar placed on a table, I browsed the internet for a existing photograph of a Mars bar. In addition, I also proceeded to use the 2008 Mars advertisement a guide while editing to mimic some of the company’s existing advert style.

Overall the final film is simple and worthy enough to present, I also added two dips to blacks one at the beginning and the other at the end of the film. The reason was because I did not desire the footage to cut into view; however, given the spare time on Wednesday, I will take the time to take my own picture of a Mars bar and see if the audio can be further edited.

Thirty Second Mars Bar Advert Session 2

Saturday 18th April 2015

Session Review

Following from last session yesterday evening I had arranged with all four group members me included to meet at the desired time of three pm in the afternoon since it was convenient for one of y team members who normally finished their work at two pm although only two of the group were prepared to film our individual mars bar advertisements.

The other group member had contacted me explaining he was unable to attend the day of shooting likely due to exhaustion of their work hours. So with the other group members Tom Baxter I had we arranged to meet within the university campus instead of the original meeting point at Worcester’s Foregate street train station entrance. Once I had arrived he  had informed that he asked another one of our classmates Noah to aid us in our post production shoot which was most appreciated because two people were needed to act in both mine and Tom's advertisements and a third group member was needed to operate a camera.

After a thirty-minute brainstorm session of all three of us discussing the proposed concepts and discussing which scenes were possible to film. Once we all were satisfied with our refined concepts we had began filming Tom's film first which took many repeated attempts due to many hilarious mistakes such as me grinning and laughing.

Nonetheless, the final results for Tom's film were impressive and the remaining time was devote d to shooting my film where my concept of two character arguing during their lunch break was further improved with the characters arguing over their boss where one was angry with the bosses decision over firing an employee whereas the other is defending his actions. Both characters end the argument when to her explains that the boss was right in his decision but had fired the wrong employee.

Overall after many outtakes of both Noah and I attempting to maintain a calm and collected posture while delivering our lines the final two results were satisfying since the last lines were further improved with improvisation.

Thirty Second Mars Bar Advert Session 1

Thursday 16th April 2015

Session Review

During today's session, I have simply browsed the internet for existing mars television advertisements in order to begin generating concepts before the day of filming tomorrow afternoon. After watching these videos I discussed the brief with my mother to gain her opinion and similar to me we both shared the same concept whereas the brief stressed two characters would argue after a meeting, lecture or work and then one of the two characters would pull out a mars bar in his lunch break and share it with his colleague.

Finally ending the advertisement with both characters eating the broken mars bar and finally relax similar to the snickers advertisement where the actress Joan Collins has a diva tantrum until a friend says "eat your snickers" and Joan Collins is revealed to be a man and then calms down stating he feels better.

Water Advert Session 1

Monday 13th April 2015

Session Review

We were given a brief to produce an advert for a bottled water drink nd make a slogan for it.
So far our group's ideas were vitae suggested by me and "tubig" meaning water in Filipino it was humorous and we considered the word.

`However, we were then given the true brief and that was to create a thirty-second advert for Mars bar and have two characters disagree on everything except there love for mars bars.

Timed Shortfilm Brief :Production

Session Review

Ok continuing from yesterdays session I am watching some intriguing short films to gain more inspiration by observing the camera shots and techniques used to further develop the simple storyboard scenes that I envisioned and drew in Microsoft paint,

So far  the simple concept given to us by the lecturer of a person feeling the presence of something and then waking up tied up in a dark room is evolving well,

Timed Shortfilm Brief :Planning

Sunday 22nd February 2015

Session Review

Continuing from Monday's session I am continuing to undertake secondary research and gain additional inspiration from silent films since the brief state our short film did not feature any audio. I opened up the program Microsoft paint and simply drew rough frames of scenes that could be created on the day of filming.

IKEA Advertisement Final Session

Monday 16th February 2015

Session Review

Continuing from the yesterdays afternoon session, I did not use the scenes featuring the stickman animation. Instead, I used the frames featuring the typography spelling the words IKEA and "Make Things Simple". I also used the opening beat of Glass Candy - Glass Castle which I used firstly because during my secondary research of watching IKEA's advertisements I noticed how the company prefers to not use music from the seventies and eighties. The second reason being is I enjoy the music of Glass Candy and originally thought to use the beats in their music or the Eurythmics for my advertisement.

IKEA Advertisement Session 6

Session Review

Previously on Monday's class session, I discovered I had become confused about the deadline for the IKEA project and assumed the deadline was on the thirteenth of March 2015 when in fact it was on Monday. So I had decided to put aside the wooden block idea because the idea itself was not completely thought out mostly during the end scenes on how I would form the word IKEA out of wooden blocks. Since I originally assumed we would have to make an eight-second hand-rendered advert on what IKEA stands for and then display the company logo; however, fellow colleges simply spelt the word IKEA in a various different hand rendered methods.

Nevertheless, I decided to return to my first concept of using a chalkboard animation of a stick man creating a chair from the box he ordered and then forming the words IKEA. My mobile phone screen was also damaged so filming this was difficult so I had to borrow my mother’s phone and at times ask her to capture some of the frames in the stop motion animation. for scenes of revealing the board and my hand and then rubbing the animation out.

Overall it was very tedious like most hand-drawn or stop motion animations I aver created but the final result was satisfying; nevertheless, I will have to arrive at the campus on Monday early to it the scenes in premier, and get it ready for the showing in class.

IKEA Advertisement Session 4

Monday 2nd March 2o15

Session Review

Earlier this morning at eleven o'clock I witnessed an advertisement on YouTube by gum tree and it lasted for only five seconds but was brief and displayed how to sell your items on their site in a very simplistic way.

This is good reference material for my IKEA eight-second advert which also must briefly express what IKEA stands for overall and what you would normally do after purchase.

IKEA Advertisement Session 3

Monday 23rd February 2015

Session Review

Continuing from yesterdays secondary research I am revisiting the genre of pixelization and watching a series of example videos.

Additionally, I have also taken the tie to do some secondary research on modernism, and I discovered that modernism roughly spanned between World War one and the early 1970s and was more of an attitude than a style and it was an attitude to break free from the conformities of the past era.

After watching a series of other various hand-rendered animation mostly paper and chalk animations. I started to form an idea of using hand-drawn animations to express a feature from IKEA; however, IKEA has already created a short advertisement using chalk animation.

IKEA Advertisement Session 1

Monday 16th February 2015

Session Review

I have undertaken some secondary research on IKEA after recipient the brief to create an eight-second hand-rendered infographic advertisement for IKEA. I proceeded to go to YouTube and watch a series of previous IKEA advertisements on their official YouTube page.

After watching these advertisements I noticed that IKEA always ends their adverts with a quite relate-able to the content of the advert and they always prefer adverts that express the companies support for modernism, functionality and hand-rendered methods of animation such as the use of puppets, pixelization, stop motion and various other methods.

Typography Final Session

Monday 16th Febuary 2015

Session Review

Typography Matrix poster created by Sebastian Jones
For today's session, I have browsed the internet for the most iconic film quotes and my search led me to a collection of quotes from my favourite trilogy the Godfather; however, I proceeded to search for others as well then create a basic plan for my typography poster before I created in in illustrator or photoshop on Monday morning.

Instead, I thought of other films while I rested on the train and thought of the matrix, in particular the constructed scene where Morpheus explains what the matrix is to Neo.

Post it Type Task

Wednesday  4th February 2015

Session Review

After organizing a meeting time with my group member yesterday evening, I met with them today to engage in the typography task. The brief was a continuation of our classroom session on Monday in which the lecturer introduced us to the topic of typography. He then gave us a number and a game quite, My game quite was from one of my favourite games Knights Of The Old Republic and from one of the best characters HK-47 "Shall I blast him now master?"

Final post-it note quote by Sebastian Jones and Sophie Knight
Once I met my team member and to other fellow colleagues, we proceeded to find a room with a blank wall we could utilize as a canvas. After discovering a wall My team meber and I proceeded to apply the pink pos it notes son blank wall in the corridor within the corridor at our university.

Once we painfully managed to stick the post-it notes on the wall with a some aid form my glue stick. The next logical step was to scrap the notes of the wall which was a tedious procedure. At first, I used my glue stick lid as a scrapper. So I suggested to the group perhaps one of them could go into the university canteen and take some plastic knives and use them as a scraper. Once he returned the plastic knives were adequate at removing the glued notes but they bent overtime I scraped it against the concrete wall so I asked another colleague to find the steel knives which were more satisfactory. I then asked my fellow colleague if he could find some white paint and paint brushes form an art lass.

He shortly returned with the piant and a brush; however, the brush was to small so I proceeded to go back to the art classroom with him and find a l; larger brush or possibly a rolling brush. Thankfully there were larger brushes and a rolling brush, though it was never used. Overall this was enjoyable to ask even with scraping the notes of the wall.

Visual Black & White Poem Final Session

Monday 12th January 2015

Session Review

I have made my final amendments to both my film narrative report and my final film; however, I met a fellow colleague earlier this morning and he informed me that our tutor Rob Tovey was attempting to contact our substitute tutor Andy Davidson and discover the details of the brief and assignment but he was unfortunately unsuccessful.

This may prove troublesome for the tutor and myself since Rob possible won't have a clear understanding of the task and this could affect my marks?

Visual Black & White Poem Session 11

Monday 5th January 2015

Session Review

Today I have taken my photographs into Adobe Premiere Pro and created an improved version of my existing film. While editing the video, simple video effects were used such as crossfade and dip to black, dip to white. I also believe the dip to white effect extremely effected for the "pulse in the eternal mind" line.

Reaching the conclusion of today's session I have thought of new scenes while working on this and that is to take a shot of two people shaking hands for gentleness and I still need a shot of more of England's sights and sounds and one for the flower.

Visual Black & White Poem Session 10

Friday 2nd January 2015

Session Review

Earlier this morning I was able to capture a closeup of a swan sitting down on the grass for the scene where it says "England sights and sounds". The swan was thankfully calm around me and I am grateful it allowed me to take a clear photograph.

Once I arrived in Worcester. I proceeded travelled to Worcester and visited the Worcester Museum to take some photographs of the world war one exhibit. Thankfully, the mannequins possessed an extraordinary amount of detail at times I assumed one of the models was a man sitting down.
