Time Travelling Cartoon Final Session?

Friday 28th November 2014

Session Review

Following from last Monday, Tom and I had to present the final concept to the class and our lecturer. Furthermore, by stroke of luck or design my academic English lesson earlier that day held a focus on presentation skills. This had helped me further refine the groups existing presentation. Simply by making sure all text was at least a font size of twenty-four, visible text and paraphrasing our big biographies for our characters.

Returning back to the classroom, once the ritual of the daily session introductions were completed, Tom and I were expected to see Mathew attend, but for unknown reasons, he was not there to present with us. After I informed the substitute tutor Andy of what the class and I were supposed to be doing naturally, my group were the first ones up.

Despite presenting concepts for four years and three times to my crafting the digital image class, I still a felt a slight chill of anxiety. Though once the ball got rolling and the slides flowed well my confidence of presenting our idea rose. Overall Tom and I were pleased and from the response and feedback from the tutor and class they also enjoyed the concept and animatic.

However, Matthew was later found in the canteen for those of you who were wondering as Tom and I questioned his whereabouts earlier. I won’t forgive his actions on Monday for falling to apologize or notify someone to let the tutor know he is unable to make it, since despite Tom and me delivering a good presentation it would have been satisfying having all of the team members presenting the concept.

Time Travelling Cartoon Session 9

Friday 21st November 2014

Session Review

The session today was a simple one considering that the ongoing faulty train services have hindered my involvement of the cartoon design; however, Matthew and Tom had proceeded to create the animatic using Tom's finished storyboards.

Thankfully I was able to get to the St John’s Campus in Worcester by having to catch the new street line which appears to be unaffected by these so-called faulty signalling lights. While I was on the campus I had firstly carried on with my academic writing assignment. Then once that was completed I had just continued to think of creative title names for our cartoon so far the ones I think that may work are the following...
  • Time Trackers
  • Moonvalley High and the Secrets of Time
  • Oscar and Catherine Time Hunters
This list may continue to grow as I conceive more appealing names.

Time Travelling Cartoon Session 8

Sunday 9th November 2014

Session Review

Today's session appeared to be a slow start since I have painfully sketched each scene for my section of the episode animatic. Yet as I  continued to sketch and erase each small drawing the speed at which I was working quickened thankfully allowing me to fill in almost every scene listed in our list of key events.

Tomorrow afternoon at 13:00pm I will need to meet with my teammates and draw those three blank scenes in and scan them ready for the presentation.

Friday 7th, November 2014

Session Review

Today I have inked and coloured my character who looks worthy enough to be on cartoon network judging from looks alone. Tom and I had discussed the events of the pilot episode. Eventually, after the events were clearly listed. Tom proceeded to work on the story events and we had really progressed it. However, towards the end of the session, I was trying out a different shade of brown to red although they looked visually unappealing although Tom had mentioned that my character looked better with his hair as white or grey which was true.

Time Travelling Cartoon Session 6

Thursday 6th, November 2014

Session Review

Following from yesterday evening I watched an episode of The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, to get some insight into how a western cartoon usually runs. Surprisingly I am surprised to see how short the episode was. So for our own cartoon, we will simply tale a short simple tale each episode.

The brief has mentioned that our cartoon is aimed for towards an American audience so it was wise to watch cartoon network cartoons since that is the network our show would most likely be displayed.

The characters sometimes break the fourth wall, for instance, Billy said to Mandy "How would you know you do not have a nose". The last scene of the episode displayed  Billy going to battle the zombie horde with a stick and when he was completely surrounded An automated voice said to be continued only to be hilariously replied by Billy saying " Oooh I hope I live".

Wanted Features
  • Parodying other films, cartoons or media.
  • Whacky and Nuts
  • Break the Fourth Wall
  • Funny  Clever Jokes
  • Cheesy Lines - "OK zombies are you ready to see what Billy the baker is cooking". - Billy
  • Subtle educational moments

Rough Episode Plan

The episode begins with the logo coming forward and then after the opening credits, displays a piece of art of episode story.

Then have the cartoon start with its first frame being an environment shot to set the scene.

Session Review

Today I was expected to present the group concept of our version of Brainiac Jack to the class; Detailing who our character was and show some concept drawings. However, it would seem Rob simply intended for the class and I to go into groups and share our concept ideas and give constructive criticism.

The criticism received from one of the other groups was indeed very helpful for both parties. Since Rob and the other group suggested further developing our characters simply going to school and then going to the magic library.

Time Travelling Cartoon Session 3

Sunday 2nd, November 2014

Session Review

Well these stinking production logs are getting on my nerves and so is this project despite me truly like the character I have created; however, as I was continuing to work on the presentation and observing my existing drawings of Jack, I suddenly thought of the 10th doctor played by David Tennant.

Moreover, to further develop Jack’s character I felt I would select elements from the tenth doctor, such as his canvas trainers and view of things and I am not sure about school kids today but kids always try to change their uniform and make it less informal scruffy. Also, I have researched the educational approach for some cartoons such as Curios George which I feel is an excellent way teaching kids to develop a curious learning style and interact with objects and their surroundings, which is important in the 21st century where it would seem the majority lacks common sense.

Furthermore, there was another cartoon named "Sid the Science Kid" which apparently teaches children basic common sense science such as the sun is an energy source and that biological objects decay. Overall working on this the current presentation has been a pain since I am managing my other coursework that needs doing.

Time Travelling Cartoon Session 2

Session Review

For this session, I simply continued to sketch more ideas for the body and shape of jack; Also considering the type of uniform he was going to wear.

The presentation detailing our concept for Brainiac Jack has been created and I have simply used the basic structure of my past presentation; However this time I am including further detail attempting to really sell the idea to our client Rob.

Tom had found some excellent references of related cartoons and in addition, helped remind me of a television show I used to watch on Saturday mornings named U.B.E.
